Attendee Code of Conduct & Summit Policies
We want the College Autism Summit to be a welcoming, respectful, and accessible environment for everyone. By registering for or attending the Summit, participants agree to follow these expectations.
1. Respectful Behavior
Participants are expected to treat attendees, speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff with respect.
Unacceptable behavior includes:
-
Harassment, intimidation, threats, or bullying
-
Discriminatory or derogatory comments or conduct
-
Personal attacks, insults, or deliberately disruptive behavior
-
Unwelcome sexual attention or conduct
-
Behavior that substantially interferes with another person's ability to participate in the Summit
Differences of opinion and respectful disagreement are welcome. Personal attacks are not.
2. Accessibility and Neurodiversity
The College Autism Summit recognizes and values neurological, communication, sensory, and other differences.
Participants are asked to:
-
Respect different communication styles and ways of participating.
-
Avoid making assumptions about another person's abilities, diagnosis, disability, or support needs.
-
Be mindful that some participants may need to move, stim, use technology, wear headphones, take breaks, or participate in ways that differ from traditional conference norms.
-
Follow any accessibility or accommodation guidelines provided by the Summit.
3. Sessions and Presentations
Please help speakers and other attendees have a positive experience by:
-
Arriving and leaving sessions as quietly as possible.
-
Keeping conversations at an appropriate volume.
-
Following the speaker's instructions regarding questions and discussion.
-
Allowing others an opportunity to participate.
-
Refraining from recording, photographing, or distributing presentation content when the presenter has requested that it not be recorded or shared.
4. Photography, Video, and Recording
Because attendees may have privacy, disability, or other personal concerns, please ask permission before photographing, recording, or livestreaming another person.
Do not photograph or record an individual who has asked you not to do so.
The Summit may photograph or record portions of the event for promotional or educational purposes. Appropriate notice will be provided, and attendees who do not wish to be photographed should follow the Summit's designated opt-out procedures.
5. Exhibitors and Networking
Exhibitors and sponsors are an important part of the Summit. Attendees are expected to interact with exhibitors respectfully.
Aggressive solicitation, harassment, or repeatedly approaching someone after they have indicated that they are not interested is not permitted.
Attendees should also respect the privacy of others when exchanging contact information or connecting through the Summit's networking platform.
6. Alcohol and Drugs
Participants must comply with applicable laws and the policies of the Summit venue.
Illegal drug use is prohibited. Alcohol consumption should be responsible and must not result in disruptive, threatening, or inappropriate behavior.
7. Weapons
Weapons are prohibited at the Summit to the extent permitted by applicable law and venue policies.
8. Children, Service Animals, and Support Persons
The Summit welcomes participants who require support to participate.
Service animals and other approved support arrangements must comply with applicable law and venue policies. Participants are asked to respect the space and privacy of individuals who use service animals, support persons, communication devices, or other accommodations.
9. Health and Safety
Attendees should not attend Summit activities if they are experiencing a contagious illness that could reasonably place others at risk.
Participants are expected to follow emergency instructions provided by Summit staff, venue personnel, or emergency responders.
10. Reporting Concerns
If you experience or witness behavior that violates these policies, please report it to Summit staff or a designated member of the College Autism Network team as soon as possible.
Reports will be handled as confidentially as reasonably possible. Summit staff may take whatever action they determine is appropriate, including asking an individual to stop the behavior, removing an individual from a session or event, or, in serious circumstances, requiring an individual to leave the Summit without a refund.
11. Enforcement
College Autism Network reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of these policies. The organization may consider the circumstances, severity, and impact of the behavior when determining an appropriate response.
Registration or attendance at the College Autism Summit constitutes agreement to comply with these policies.
